3-Year-old child rescued alive six days after earthquake

A three-year-old child has been rescued alive from beneath the rubble six days after a devastating earthquake struck Venezuela, according to a Jordanian rescue team.
Video footage showed rescuers erupting in celebration as they pulled the child from the debris in La Guaira state.
Venezuela's interim president identified the child as Klieber Morán. Delcy Rodríguez described the rescue as "a moment of hope."
The rescue comes as the United Nations has warned that thousands of people in Venezuela are in urgent need of food and shelter.
Meanwhile, the death toll from last week's powerful 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes has risen to 1,943. More than 10,000 people have been injured, while thousands remain missing.
According to a preliminary analysis of NASA satellite data, the powerful earthquakes damaged or destroyed approximately 58,870 buildings.
Jordan's Civil Defense said Klieber received initial medical treatment before being taken to a hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
Venezuela's Assembly President, Jorge Rodríguez, said the child is receiving treatment in the capital, Caracas.
The first 72 hours after an earthquake are generally considered the most critical for rescue operations, as the chances of finding survivors trapped under rubble are highest during that period. The child's rescue six days after the disaster is therefore considered remarkable.
La Guaira is one of the areas hardest hit by the earthquake, where local residents have also been carrying out rescue efforts on their own.
On Tuesday, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) said the region is facing severe food shortages, the collapse of essential services, and widespread communication disruptions.
