Ceasefire with Iran gets over: Trump

US President Donald Trump has said that the ceasefire with Iran is over and that further discussions with Tehran would be a waste of time. He claimed that the United States carried out a powerful strike overnight against what he described as "very dangerous people" in Iran.

Speaking to reporters at the 36th NATO Summit in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, on Wednesday (July 8), Trump said, "The Iranian government is a cancer that must be cut out at the beginning. They are evil, sick people. We have to get rid of this cancer."

Referring to the memorandum of understanding, or interim agreement, between the United States and Iran, Trump said, "I think it's over." He added that the agreement with Tehran had collapsed, the ceasefire had ended, and made it clear that he no longer wanted any relationship with the Iranians.

Earlier, on Tuesday night, the United States launched what it described as powerful strikes on at least 80 targets inside Iran. Washington alleged that Iran had attacked three commercial vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iran has not claimed responsibility for the alleged attack.

In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly targeted at least 85 U.S.-linked sites in Kuwait and Bahrain.

The latest exchange of attacks came as mourning ceremonies for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were nearing completion, with preparations underway for his burial in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday.
