Permanent solution on gas crisis needs 2 years: Commerce Minister

Permanent solution of the ongoing gas crisis in the country needs two years, said Industry and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir.

The minister came up with the remark while talking with journalists after a workshop in Dhopadighir par in Sylhet.

Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said, it is reality that production is being hampered due to shortages of gas.

“There is no alternative to develop the infrastructure to overcome this crisis. Different mill and factories are in sufferings over shortages of gas supply, there is no way to refuse it,” he said.

The minister said, the crisis is not created by this government. It gets through inheriting. But necessary infrastructures to be built.

“The government is doing job in these regards beyond the traditional ways.

In a bid to get out from this crisis it is needed to construct necessary set-up.

The countrymen have to give us the time which is needed to get out from the crisis through constructing such infrastructures.

It needs about two years to build such set ups, he added.

Meanwhile, the minister said, the government is also working for overcoming the present crisis in temporary basis, besides the longtime plans.

Replying to a query over bringing LNG from Malaysia, the minister said Malaysian small sized ships are now involved in several internal tasks. It created limitation to bring LNG from the Malaysia soon.

He said the government is trying to solve the temporary problem beside working for the permanent solution.
