Police has started investigation on Cumilla school girl Jannatul Tazmin murder case. Police suspected that the auto-rickshaw puller Sumon was raped and killed the school girl.

Cumilla district police on Saturday (10 October) said it in a press briefing at the police superintendent office at the morning 10:30 am.

As per the police statement, Tazmin rent a auto-rickshaw on 8 October night from Paduarbazar to her residence in Rescourse area.

Later, the rickshaw puller Sumon took her an isolated area and killed her after raping.

Sumon took the victim’s iphone from her handbag. Then he went to nearer Kachikata mosque and took bath in a pond there.

Later he went Bakhrabad area in the city and kept the iphone hidden in a nearer jungle and went to Chattogram.

Earlier on Friday, police arrested the suspect, Sumon, was driving the auto-rickshaw that carried the schoolgirl before her death, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md Lutfar Rahman.

Acting on a tip-off, several police teams launched an operation in Chattogram city and arrested Sumon early Friday. A police team was bringing him to Cumilla, the officer said.

On Thursday morning, police recovered Jannatul Tazmin’s body from a paddy field in Jagatpur village of Lalmai upazila.

Jannatul was the daughter of Abdul Alim of Churamankati in Jashore Sadar and a seventh-grade student at Farida Vidyayatan in Cumilla city.

Lalmai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman said police recovered the body around 7:00am from a paddy field near Manumura jungle in Jagatpur Northpara. An abandoned green CNG-run auto-rickshaw was also found nearby.

According to locals, they first noticed the vehicle and later discovered the girl’s body about 50 yards from the road. She was lying beside a field ridge, with a gamcha wrapped around her neck.

The victim’s father, Abdul Alim, said his daughter left their rented home in Cumilla on October 4, telling the family that she was going to visit a friend. She later travelled to Cox’s Bazar with the friend.

He said he last spoke to his daughter around 2:00am on Thursday, after she had returned to Cumilla.

When he subsequently lost contact with her, he tracked her mobile phone’s location to the Lalmai area. He later learned that her body had been recovered from Jagatpur.

Following the incident, Abdul Alim filed a murder case with Lalmai Police Station against unidentified individuals in connection with his daughter’s death.
