Jamaat leader Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman arrested

Jamaat-e-Islami leader and former BNP lawmaker Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman has been arrested.
Personnel of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) arrested him on Friday (2 October) in a case filed over allegedly creating anarchy, obstructing government work and insulting a security officer at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He is currently in DB custody.
The DB chief of the DMP confirmed the matter.
Meanwhile, shortly before his arrest, former lawmaker Akhtaruzzaman, also a Freedom Fighter, went live on Facebook and delivered a message to his fellow countrymen.
“Dear countrymen, Assalamu Alaikum. DB police is now arresting me. I want to work for you and the expatriate Bangladeshis as long as I live. I seek your prayers so that I can be martyred,” he said.
He added, “As long as I live, I’ll serve the people. I’ll do everything to protect the interests of the people. I’ll remain in the struggle for the people as long as I live.”
