Some parties trying to create anarchy by fabricating issues: Tarique Rahman

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday (1 October) said some political parties were trying to create anarchy by raising false and fabricated issues.
“When we are working to establish the rule of law, they are trying to create anarchy by raising false issues,” he said.
The Prime Minister made the remarks after inaugurating the Tk1,542.16-crore Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project Rehabilitation (Phase I) in Feni, aimed at strengthening flood protection, drainage and irrigation facilities in the district.
Tarique Rahman inaugurated the project at around 2:17pm at the Kheyaghat Ghat-Muhuri Bridge area in Parshuram upazila and later exchanged greetings with local people at the venue.
The Prime Minister said, “Our senior citizens obviously remember what role they (the opposition party) played in 1971. They have started torturing people like in 1971. They did not stop at torture; they also took a person’s life.”
“They are now advising us, saying, ‘Do this or do that.’ I want to tell them to please focus on their own party men and try to contain them,” he said.
He further said, “They went against the people of the country in 1986, and they are now doing such acts again. They have gained some seats by misleading some people. After gaining those seats, they have now lost their balance. We have to protect the country from these misleading people.”
“The time has come to take the right decision about whose words you believe and whose you do not,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the country’s democratic process must be protected at any cost. If anyone tries to obstruct those working for the country’s development, the people will strongly resist them, he added.
Tarique Rahman said the BNP government had always worked for the people and had started canal excavation after coming to power.
“Farmers will benefit from these initiatives,” he said, adding that an additional one lakh tonnes of food grains would be produced through the canal excavation works.
“The food grains will remain within the purchasing capacity of the people,” he said.
Tarique Rahman also highlighted other initiatives of his government, including the distribution of Family Cards and Farmer Cards.
He said his government had arranged the waiver of Tk1,500 crore in agricultural loans for farmers, benefiting around 13 lakh farmers.
His government was also reopening many mills and factories that had remained closed during the previous government’s tenure, he said.
The Prime Minister further said all hospitals across the country were being expanded from 50 beds to 100 beds.
“When the BNP government starts such people-oriented welfare activities, some political parties feel irritated,” he said.
“The previous government choked the people, stopped them from speaking and never listened to their voices. Due to their oppression, the people ousted them in 2024 through a mass uprising,” he said.
“The people have given us the responsibility to run the country. We are working for the welfare of the people,” the Prime Minister added.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister and Feni-3 lawmaker Abdul Awal Mintoo, Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad, Feni-1 lawmaker Rafiqul Alam Maznu, Feni-2 lawmaker Joynal Abedin and lawmaker Rehana Akter Ranu, among others, were present at the programme.
