Government unveils master plan to fill over 500,000 vacant public service posts

The government has adopted a special recruitment plan spanning six months, one year, and five years to fill vacant positions across government offices. Currently, a total of 521,922 posts remain vacant against the approved staffing structure in various government departments.
The information was disclosed on Tuesday (July 7) in Parliament by State Minister for Public Administration Md. Abdul Bari in response to a written question from Reserved Seat MP Sabikunnahar. The parliamentary session was chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
According to the state minister, based on the latest updated data available up to 2025, the government has 1,986,272 approved positions across its offices and agencies. Of these, 521,922 positions are currently vacant.
He further informed Parliament that, under the government's action plan, initiatives have been taken to complete the recruitment of more than 500,000 government employees in a transparent and expedited manner. To facilitate the process, the Ministry of Public Administration has already requested all ministries and divisions to submit the latest information on recruitment status, vacant positions, and recruitment requisitions.
The state minister also said that all ministries and divisions have been instructed to publish recruitment notices as quickly as possible and prepare specific action plans to fill the vacant posts within the shortest possible time.
