Crackdown on teen gangs: 254 more detained in Cumilla

Police have detained 254 more individuals in simultaneous drives across the district against teenage gangs and delinquent youths.

Cumilla Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfar Rahman said police launched simultaneous raids across all 18 police station areas in the district on Saturday night.

The drives targeted various hotspots across Cumilla city and surrounding upazilas where juvenile gang activity had been reported, he said, adding that senior officials of the district police directly participated in the raids.

Police are currently verifying the involvement of the detainees in criminal activities before taking necessary legal action, Lutfar said.

He added that regular anti-teen gang operations are being conducted to prevent rising teenagers from drifting into crime, emphasising that the district police will continue such drives in the future.

Earlier, police detained 624 teenagers and youths in a coordinated drive against teen gangs in the district on September 24.

Of them, 174 were sent to jail or child development centres while the rest were released after taking undertakings.
