Extortionists to be identified through AI cameras: Home Minister

The government has introduced a technology-based monitoring system using artificial intelligence (AI) cameras to curb extortion and other irregularities on highways.
Under the system, various activities on highways will be closely monitored through AI-powered cameras, and incidents of extortion and other irregularities will be recorded, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said.
“If any incidents of extortion are committed by transport owners, workers’ federations or police, all of them will be recorded through the AI cameras,” he said.
The home minister made the remarks at the Meghnaghat Highway Police Command and Control Monitoring Center in Narayanganj while inaugurating an AI-based ‘Auto Fine System’ on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on Tuesday (August 18).
Salahuddin Ahmed expressed optimism that the system would help reduce extortion on highways.
“We will stop extortion on the highways with the help of the people,” he said.
He added that the auto fine system would gradually be installed on all highways across the country.
