Five more children die from measles, measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Five more children died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, measles-like symptoms were detected in 986 more children, while 91 additional children tested positive for measles.

The DGHS reported the figures in its regular bulletin on the measles situation on Tuesday (25 August).

According to the report, 844 children have died from measles-like symptoms between 15 March and 25 August, while 99 deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles. This brings the total number of deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms to 943.

The report said 18,578 children have been confirmed to have measles so far, including the 91 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, measles-like symptoms were detected in 986 more children during the same period, bringing the total number of suspected cases to 127,811.

According to DGHS data, 132,554 children have been admitted to hospitals with measles or suspected measles so far. Of them, 127,811 have been discharged after recovery.
