Energy crisis in industries to ease from Tuesday: Mahdi Amin

The ongoing energy crisis in mills and factories will ease from Tuesday (15 September), said Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin.

The adviser, who is also the spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, told the media on Monday (14 September) after meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Mahdi Amin said the government has certain plans for the power and energy sector.

He said work on the construction of a floating LNG terminal (FSRU), which is scheduled to be operational before 2028, has already started.

The government has a plan to have five floating LNG terminals, including the remaining two.

Earlier in the day, a meeting between the prime minister and business leaders was held at the Secretariat.

Referring to the meeting, Mahdi Amin said, “Twenty-one business leaders participated in the discussion. The meeting discussed power, gas and mineral resources.”

He said coordinated initiatives had been taken regarding power.

“Solar energy has been given importance. The government also plans to construct a land-based LNG terminal alongside the FSRU.

“A heap of problems created over a long time during the fascist regime could not be resolved in a day. Every problem will open new horizons of potential,” he said.
