Biman forms probe committee over technical fault on PM's flight

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has formed a four- member committee to investigate a technical fault on its Narita-Dhaka flight carrying the Prime Minister and his entourage on Thursday (29 October).
The committee has been asked to submit its report to the airline's managing director and chief executive officer within four working days, according to an office order issued on Friday (30 October).
The fault occurred before the departure of flight BG 377 from Japan's Narita International Airport, the order said.
Biman's chief of planning and scheduling will head the committee while its manager of legal affairs will serve as member secretary. The other members are the chief engineer of engineering production and the deputy chief of flight safety.
The committee will ascertain the actual cause and nature of the fault and review the technical and operational measures taken to identify and rectify it and ensure the aircraft's subsequent fitness for flight.
It will also assess the resulting flight delay, additional operating costs, inconvenience to passengers and impact on Biman's institutional reputation.
The investigators have been tasked with examining the responsibilities of those concerned to determine whether negligence, lack of coordination or procedural shortcomings occurred at any stage and establish accountability.
The committee will recommend measures to prevent a recurrence and may co-opt any Biman official if necessary.
The order, signed by Biman Director of Administration and Human Resources Air Commodore Md Niamul Kabir, took immediate effect.
