Bangladesh unaware of Hasina’s staying status in India: Chief Prosecutor

Bangladesh government is unaware of the court convicted Sheikh Hasina’s status of staying India, Md. Aminul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crime Tribunal said.

He said it while replying to a query of journalists on Monday (17Augutst).

Chief prosecutor said, Sheikh Hasina is convicted by court in judicial procedures. Bangladesh government has applied to India to expedite Hasina’s extradition. All of the process to return her to the country has taken through legal procedures.

An Indian media has published a report saying it may be needed to get Indian court’s verdict over Hasina’s extradition, in this regard, Aminul Islam said, it was not been clear on the report that in which status Hasina is staying in India, so that giving opinion over the base of the report will not appropriate.

He said, Bangladesh yet to know that in which status Hasina is staying in India. So in which aspect it has been said that Indian court verdict will be needed in this purpose it is not clear.

Replying to a query of journalists over remaining any connection between BNP leader and current Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed’s staying in India’s Shilong and aftermath legal procedure and now Hasina’s stationing there, the chief prosecutor said there are no connection in these two incidents.

He said, Salahuddin Ahmed was kidnaped and was taken to India in 2015 and was sued there. Later, he had been quashed from the case and returned Bangladesh.

Talking to media, Aminul Islam hoped that the court will give highest punishment to the accused of the atrocities of July Uprising.
