Three special lorries carrying uranium for the second unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant reached on the plant in Pabna on Saturday (3 October) at around 12: 30 pm amid tight security provided by Bangladesh Army.

Deputy Comissioner of Pabna Aminul Islam confirmed the matter to media.

The DC said, “The special lorries carrying uranium for the second unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant reached on the plant around 12: 30pm amid tight security.”

The lorries crossed Bonpara bypass in Baraigram upazila around 11:45am.

Police and members of intelligence agencies was deployed at key points along the highway as the uranium-laden vehicles passed through the district.

Earlier, an aircraft carrying the uranium arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 11:45pm on Friday.

After completing the necessary procedures at the airport, the uranium was loaded onto the special lorries, which then set off for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

The flight carrying uranium for Rooppur plant was scheduled to arrive on September 24 but was not given permission to use Pakistani airspace.
