Case on crimes against humanity: Verdict on Obaidul Quader, 7 others Tuesday

The verdict in the case against banned Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and seven others over crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising will be delivered on Tuesday (15 September).

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has fixed the date for delivering the verdict in the case against Obaidul Quader, AL leaders AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Mohammad Ali Arafat, and top leaders of the Juba League and banned Chhatra League.

Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury-led tribunal on Monday (14 September) set the date for delivering the verdict.

Earlier, the prosecution concluded its arguments in the case on August 17, seeking the death penalty for the accused, along with confiscation of their assets.

The case has been awaiting a verdict since then.

Besides Obaidul Quader, the other accused in the case are AL Joint Secretary General AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former state minister for information Mohammad Ali Arafat, Juba League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Porosh and General Secretary Mainul Hossein Khan Nikhil, and banned Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.
