The results of the 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations have painted a discouraging state in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh, with fewer than half of the candidates passing.

A total of 911 students passed out of 2,072 candidates who appeared from 14 colleges under the Mymensingh Education Board, recording a pass rate of 43.97 per cent. Of them, 16 students secured GPA-5, sources said.

An analysis of the institution-wise results shows that Palashihata ML High School and College topped the colleges in terms of pass rate. Of its 139 candidates, 91 passed, achieving a pass rate of 65.47 per cent.

Ashim Shahabuddin College secured the highest number of GPA-5 achievers, with six students obtaining the highest grade.

The institution recorded a pass rate of 59.55 per cent. Fulbaria Government Women's College and Islamia College recorded pass rates of 55.23 per cent and 47.37 per cent respectively.

However, several institutions posted particularly poor results. At Akhter Sultana Mohila College, only one of the 35 candidates passed, resulting in a pass rate of just 2.86 per cent. Alhaj Mobarak Khan College recorded a pass rate of 15.38 per cent, with only two of its 13 candidates passing.

Meanwhile, Fulbaria College saw 216 students pass out of 691 candidates, recording a pass rate of 31.26 per cent. Despite the low pass rate, five students from the institution secured GPA-5.

Meanwhile, under the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board, 88 out of 236 candidates from eight madrasahs in the upazila passed the Alim examination, recording a pass rate of 37.29 per cent. Two students secured GPA-5. Among the institutions,

Enayetpur Fazil Madrasah recorded the highest pass rate of 62.50 per cent, although it had only eight candidates. Ashim Patuli Fazil Madrasah and Dhurdhuria Alim Madrasah recorded pass rates of 58.33 per cent and 55.56 per cent respectively. On the other hand, Siddikia Yatimkhana Darul Habib Fazil Madrasah recorded a pass rate of just 14.29 per cent, with only one of its seven candidates passing.

In addition, six institutions in Fulbaria participated in the HSC (Business Management and Technology) examination under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board. Among them, three students from Principal Parvin Zakir Technical Girls' School and College secured GPA-5.

Overall, the pass rates in both the general and madrasah education streams remained below 50 per cent. The results have raised concerns over the quality of education, classroom teaching and students' preparation for public examinations at the upazila's post-secondary institutions.
