Home Minister warns police members to ensure discrimination is not repeated

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has called upon police members to remain vigilant so that the discrimination they suffered in the past is not repeated in their personal and professional lives.
He said that instead of misbehavior, bias and muscle power, legal authority must be exercised through professionalism, efficiency and humane policing.
The minister said while speaking as the chief guest at the closing parade ceremony for the training of the 27th Probationary Sergeant and 43rd Cadet Sub-Inspector (SI-2006) batches at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarda, Rajshahi.
He took the salute of the parade and distributed awards among the trainees who achieved excellence in various subjects.
84 trainees of the 27th Probationary Sergeant batch and 162 trainees of the 43rd Cadet SI batch participated in the parade.
The Home Minister said all kinds of intimidation and biasness must be ignored to provide legal services and protection to the people. One must be sincere towards people of all classes and professions, including helpless people seeking services.
The trust of the people must be earned by standing by them and providing services. One must truly establish oneself as the 'people's police' and win the hearts of the people.
He further said cybercrime, online fraud, financial fraud, drug-related crimes, human trafficking and organized crime have created new challenges for the police. To face these challenges, police members must perform their duties with honesty, efficiency, dedication, professionalism and sense of duty.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, like other institutions, the police force was also damaged during the fascist government's tenure. The police force is gradually recovering from that fragile state.
At the ceremony, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir and Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy, Sarda, Mainul Hasan were present on the stage with the Home Minister.
ASP Probationer Mahbub Hossain served as the parade commander. At that time, senior military and civilian officials of various ranks and local dignitaries were present.
In the parade, probationary Sergeants Md. Omar Faruk, Mohammad Delowar Hossain, Saiful Islam and Md. Asaduzzaman achieved excellence in various subjects.
Among the Cadet Sub-Inspectors, Mohammad Jahangir Alam was selected as the best cadet. Md. Borhanul Islam achieved excellence in academic subjects, Dewan Golam Rasul was best in field activities, and Md. Kamal Gani was selected as the best shooter.
According to sources from the Bangladesh Police Academy, members of the 27th Probationary Sergeant batch will join their respective units after completing six months of basic training.
On the other hand, members of the 43rd Cadet SI batch will be posted as probationary SIs (unarmed) in various units of the police after completing six months of basic training.
It is worth mentioning that 84 police sergeants and 162 sub-inspectors who were selected for recruitment in 2006 were dropped in 2007 on 'partisan considerations'.
In a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs in March this year, that order was withdrawn and they were instructed to join service with seniority.
These 246 police members who got their jobs back after long 20 years participated in Thursday's closing parade.
