Processions, rallies ban in several Dhaka areas
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned rallies, meetings, processions, marches and demonstrations in and around the National Parliament complex in the capital ahead of the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad. The police have also prohibited the carrying of weapons, explosives and other harmful or polluting substances in the areas.
The restriction was imposed through a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday (25 August).
According to the notice, the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad will begin on August 27. The decision was taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the session and maintain peace and order in and around the Parliament complex.
Under the restriction, carrying any kind of weapons, explosives or other harmful and polluting substances in the designated areas will be prohibited from midnight on Wednesday (August 26) until further notice. Meetings, rallies, processions, marches and demonstrations will also be prohibited.
Areas Covered by the Restriction
According to the DMP notice, the restricted area will extend from the Mohakhali Crossing on Mymensingh Road through the old airport to Banglamotor Crossing.
The area from the western end of Banglamotor Link Road to the Hotel Sonargaon Road–Sarak Fountain, as well as the area from the eastern end of Panthapath through the Green Road intersection to Farmgate, will also be covered by the restriction.
The restriction will also apply to the area from Shyamoli Crossing on Mirpur Road to the intersection with Dhanmondi Road No. 16 (formerly Road No. 27).
In addition, the area from the Rokeya Sarani intersection through the old Ninth Division (Aircraft) Crossing, Bijoy Sarani and Parjatan Crossing, and from the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue will come under the restriction.
The order will also apply to the roads and lanes within the restricted boundaries, as well as the protected area of the National Parliament complex.
The DMP said the order will remain in force until the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad concludes.
