Three people, including a couple, were hacked to death at a house in Sylhet metropolitan city on Wednesday morning.

The bodies were recovered from House No. 111 in the city’s Raynagar Mitali Residential Area around 9:00am, witnesses said.

The deceased were identified as Hazi Abdus Sattar Mia, 90, a resident of the house; his wife, Suraiya Begum, 75; and their 25-year-old housemaid, whose identity could not immediately be confirmed.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Md Manjurul Alam confirmed the incident to the media.

“Police are heading to the spot after receiving information,” he said on Wednesday afternoon, adding that details of the incident would be disclosed later.

According to local sources, Abdus Sattar Mia was a member of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and lived in his own house in Raynagar.

The couple had four children, two of whom live in the UK and the other two in the USA.

Police are investigating the incident.
