Case files against Miltan Samadder

A case has been filed with Savar Model Police Station against Milton Samadder, founder of Child and Old Age Care, over allegations of assault.

The case was filed on Saturday (29 August) by Nahid Hasan, the alleged victim, who lodged the complaint as the plaintiff. Nahid Hasan is known as a content creator for the Facebook-based platform ‘Ujan TV’.

Sub-Inspector Al Amin of Savar Model Police Station confirmed the matter to Asia Post.

Speaking to Asia Post, Nahid Hasan said, “We only want justice for the wrong that has been done to us. The way Milton Samadder launched a sudden attack on us with an intention to kill, we expect him to face proper justice through the law. We respect the law. We hope to receive due justice under the existing laws based on the offence.”

Several attempts were made to contact Milton Samadder by phone for his comment on the case, but he did not respond. No response was received either after messages were sent to him via WhatsApp.

Earlier, on 27 August, Nahid Hasan submitted a complaint to Savar Model Police Station. In the complaint, Nahid said he is involved in various social and humanitarian welfare activities as a content creator and volunteer. He said he learned through advertisements published on various news portals and from people that Child and Old Age Care, operated by Milton Samadder in Kamalapur area of Birulia Union under Savar Model Police Station in Dhaka, provides shelter to unidentified children and elderly people as well as free medical treatment to sick individuals.

According to Nahid’s complaint, at around 2:30pm on August 23, he found an unidentified and sick elderly woman, aged around 65, lying on a road near Dashkura in the Bakultala area of Sharankhola Police Station.

After failing to find her identity or any of her family members despite attempts, he rescued the woman on humanitarian grounds and took her to Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex. After she received primary treatment there, he contacted Milton Samadder by phone and requested him to provide the woman with shelter and care at his organisation.

Nahid further said in the complaint that Milton Samadder initially refused to take the elderly woman to his organisation. Later, following his repeated requests, Milton Samadder demanded Tk 18,000 per month in exchange for providing her with care and shelter. The matter was subsequently made public on social media.

According to Nahid’s complaint, following Milton Samadder’s instructions, they left Sharankhola Upazila with the elderly woman on 25 August and arrived at Child and Old Age Care by ambulance at around 2:30am. Immediately after their arrival, Milton Samadder, the organisation’s manager Debashish, 26, and another five to seven unidentified people allegedly launched a sudden attack on them over the publication of information on social media.

Nahid alleged that at one point Milton Samadder grabbed him by the throat and attempted to suffocate him with an intention to kill him. When Mohammad Ilias Hossain, who was accompanying Nahid, tried to rescue him from the accused, he was also allegedly beaten indiscriminately. As a result, he sustained bruises and injuries on different parts of his body.

The complaint further stated that later, with the assistance of unidentified individuals, Milton Samadder allegedly intimidated Nahid and forcibly recorded a video in which he was made to give a statement exonerating Milton Samadder and presenting a one-sided account. Nahid alleged that as the earlier post had been circulated by various media outlets and on social media, Milton Samadder kept the elderly woman at his organisation in an attempt to avoid responsibility for his alleged actions. He then allegedly threatened Nahid and Mohammad Ilias Hossain with death and drove them out of the premises.

The complaint said they later received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital with the help of local residents.

In a Facebook post on 26 August, Nahid Hasan alleged that after he took an elderly woman to Child and Old Age Care to provide her with shelter, the electricity connection was cut off and he was severely beaten.

He also alleged that he was forced to record a statement acknowledging that no money had been demanded from him.
