The government will recruit 100,000 healthcare workers to strengthen primary and preventive healthcare services, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has announced. He said that an effective preventive healthcare system would significantly reduce the patient burden on major hospitals across the country, including Chattogram Medical College (CMCH) Hospital.

The minister made the remarks while addressing an exchange-of-views meeting as the chief guest at Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Saturday (July 4).

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that simply increasing budget allocations or investment would not be enough to achieve the desired improvements in the healthcare sector.

Instead, the entire healthcare system must be restructured to bring about qualitative change. He stressed that physicians, teachers, and other professionals concerned should take the initiative for reform by fulfilling their responsibilities with professionalism.

He also said that the government is prioritizing necessity, strategic importance, effectiveness, and environmental considerations in implementing development projects, and the same principles will be applied to the healthcare sector.

The government is ready to allocate the necessary funds, but proper utilization of those resources must be ensured. He emphasized that Bangladesh should adopt global best practices to improve the quality of healthcare services.
