Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday (17 October) visited Dhaka Residential Model College, where he studied and urged students to play an active role in nation-building by keeping the country clean and planting more trees.

During his visit to the college in Mohammadpur this noon, the Prime Minister spoke to students and called on them to contribute to building a clean, green and livable Bangladesh, said his Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.

Addressing the students, Tarique Rahman said making the country clean and livable required collective efforts, stressing that the government alone could not achieve the goal without active public participation.

He urged young people to keep their homes, educational institutions and surrounding areas clean and raise awareness among others about maintaining a healthy environment.

Referring to the 2024 mass uprising, the Prime Minister asked the students whether any single political party had led the movement, noting that people had achieved success through collective efforts.

He said the youth had already demonstrated their ability to bring about major changes through unity, adding that their responsibility did not end with taking part in a movement. Students must also come forward to rebuild the country and help create a better Bangladesh, he said.

Expressing concern over air pollution in Dhaka, Tarique Rahman said air pollution in Dhaka is increasingly being worsen, exposing people, particularly children to various health risks. He stressed the need to plant more trees to address the situation.

The premier said the government had already taken initiatives to make the country cleaner and greener, but those efforts would not succeed fully without the active participation of young people.

Urging the students to keep the country clean and plant more trees the Prime Minister said, “You are the future. I have two requests to you… first is keep the country clean and the second is plant more trees. This is your country, and the responsibility for it rests with you,” he said.

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton and Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, among others, were present.
