4,000-SI, 10 thousand constables to be appointed in police

Four thousand unarmed Sub-Inspectors (SIs) will be appointed in the Bangladesh Police, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said.

He also said that 400 sergeants and 10,000 constables would be appointed to the force.

The home minister said this on Thursday (27 August) in the Parliament session while replying to a query from Rangpur-6 MP Nurul Amin.

Salahuddin Ahmed said that after creating these posts, the manpower of the police in Rangpur would also be increased.

The home minister also said that the government would address the shortages of vehicles, water transport, development and organogram-related equipment within the next five years, purchasing them through the revenue budget.

The Home Minister said that police officers of all ranks are periodically provided with training at the respective academies. The training includes moral, physical and various academic aspects. He said this is the existing practice.

Salahuddin Ahmed said that the current government has no immediate plan to introduce separate training specifically on ethics.

During the parliamentary session on Thursday, Cumilla-4 MP Hasnat Abdullah claimed that the country’s law and order situation had deteriorated over the past six months and asked the Home Minister about the government’s measures in this regard.

In response, the Home Minister said that making broad statements alone would not be enough; specific information and evidence must be provided regarding any deterioration in the law and order situation.

Salahuddin Ahmed said that if any allegation or statement is raised in Parliament with specific information and evidence, the government will consider it seriously and take necessary action.

He said that if there is any specific incident or information concerning the law and order situation, it must be brought to the government’s attention. If the matter is presented with evidence, action will be taken against those responsible.
