Gold price sees another big jump

The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) has once again increased the price of gold in the local market. Under the latest revision, the price of 22-carat gold has been raised by Tk9,856 per bhori (11.664 grams), taking it to Tk232,930.

BAJUS announced the new prices in a press release issued on Thursday (August 6), saying the revised rates will take effect from Thursday morning.

According to the association, the price adjustment was made due to an increase in the price of pure gold in the local market. Considering the prevailing market conditions, BAJUS re-fixed the prices of all categories of gold.

Under the new rates, 22-carat gold will be sold at Tk232,930 per bhori. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk222,491 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk191,056 per bhori.

Gold produced under the traditional method will be sold at Tk156,064 per bhori.

BAJUS said the revised prices will remain effective at all jewellery shops across the country until further notice or until a new decision is announced.

The association also noted that the listed prices of gold and silver jewellery already include Value Added Tax (VAT). Therefore, retailers are not permitted to charge customers any additional VAT. However, making charges (labour costs) may be added separately depending on the design and craftsmanship of the jewellery.
