Shakawath Hossain secures copyright for ‘Six Control Points’ on food cost efficiency

Shakawath Hossain, CEO of Unique Hotel and Resorts PLC, has secured copyright registration from the Copyright Office of the Government of Bangladesh for “Shakawath’s Six Control Points for Food Cost Optimization” as his intellectual property-based work.
It is to be mentioned that Unique Hotel and Resorts PLC is a sister concern of The Westin Dhaka, Sheraton Dhaka and HANSA – A Premium Residence.
Shakawath Hossain innovated and developed the structure from his vast experience of over 25 years of leadership in the hospitality sector.
It presents a realistic and measurable system for managing food costs.
It gives importance to six significant areas – Purchase Control, Inventory Control, Right Transfer, Portion Control, Appropriate Cooking, and Wastage Control.
Through a coordinated system, this structure has brought together the departments of Purchasing, Receiving, Stores, Cost Control, Finance, Culinary, and Food and Beverage Services.
The Westin Dhaka, Sheraton Dhaka and HANSA – A Premium Residence have been using the system since 2023.
As a result, awareness of food costing has increased, and the three hotels have contributed to food cost efficiency of about Tk 2 crore combined.
The leaders, departmental heads and team members of certain teams at the three hotels were actively involved in implementing the system. As a result, measurable progress has been achieved in controlling food costs and improving efficiency.
The ‘Six Control Points’ has been included in the curriculum of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Dhaka University.
Plans are also underway to introduce the system on different academic and training platforms to teach future hospitality professionals about practical food cost management and help promote sustainable management.
It has assisted the hotels in assessing the appropriate demand for food, purchasing materials according to actual demand, managing inventory, maintaining appropriate food portions, following proper cooking systems, and reducing food wastage.
It has helped improve food quality, service standards, customer satisfaction, and long-term cost efficiency.
Shakawath Hossain said, “This copyright recognition is a very significant milestone for the ‘Six Control Points’ initiative. We are now working to extend the system across the hospitality sector in the country.”
“Besides, we are also working to make it contextual with international hotel brands to create possibilities for implementing the system in the future.”
The copyright registration has recognised Shakawath Hossain as the innovator of ‘Six Control Points for Food Cost Optimization’ as his original work.
It has also created a strong foundation for the wider use of the system in the hospitality and education sectors.
