Over 400 tourists stranded in Sajek as floodwaters submerge roads

More than 400 tourists have been stranded in Sajek after the Dighinala–Baghaihat–Machalong road in Rangamati was submerged by flash floods from hill streams. The matter was confirmed on Wednesday (July 8) morning by Motijoy Tripura, Vice President of the Sajek Resort Owners' Association.
He said that continuous heavy rainfall had caused flash floods, inundating the Dighinala–Baghaihat–Machalong road. The strong current has made travel along the route extremely risky. More than 400 tourists visited Sajek over the past two days, and all of them are currently safe.
Motijoy Tripura added that no one will be able to leave Sajek until the floodwaters recede from the road. In the meantime, tourists staying in Sajek are being allowed to remain at their accommodations by paying only the service charge.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday (July 7) evening, the Rangamati district administration imposed a ban on travel to Sajek Valley, effective until further notice, due to heavy rainfall and the risk of landslides. The information was announced in an emergency public notice signed by District Magistrate Nazma Ashrafi.
