Police detain two members of fraud gang in Jashore

The cybercrime unit of the Jashore District Detective Branch (DB) police has detained two members of a fraud gang accused of embezzling wheat bran worth Tk 34.19 lakh by impersonating senior officials of Kazi Farms Limited.
The detainees are Monirul Islam, son of Nuru Molla of Natabaria village in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna, and Khalek Sarder, son of Ismail Sarder of Dodaria village in the same upazila.
Police detained Monirul from the Nazirshongkorpur area of Jashore and Khalek from the Old Kasba area.
Based on information provided by the detainees, police later conducted a raid in Putebazar area of Pabna to arrest another alleged member of the gang, Abul Hossain. However, he managed to flee the area. Police recovered a large quantity of the embezzled wheat bran from the location.
Police also recovered Tk 10.03 lakh, allegedly earned by selling wheat bran obtained through previous fraudulent transactions.
During the operation, police seized several items allegedly used in the fraud, including seven mobile phones, 51 SIM cards, two laptops, a motorcycle and gold ornaments.
According to the case details, the fraudsters contacted Manik Kumar Agarwal, owner of M/S RS International in Chuadanga, while posing as a manager and director of Kazi Farms Limited.
They signed an agreement with the businessman to purchase 75 tonnes of wheat bran at Tk 32 per kilogram.
Later, the alleged fraudsters took away five truckloads of wheat bran that had been unloaded in the Churamonkathi Bazar area on July 22 and 25.
Afterward, the fraudsters demanded Tk 30,000 from Manik, which raised his suspicion.
The businessman then contacted the Jashore office of Kazi Farms Limited and learned that the company had not placed any order for wheat bran and that the suspects had been using fake identities.
He subsequently filed a complaint with the district police.
Following the complaint, a team of the Jashore DB cyber unit, led by Sub-Inspector Debbrata Ghosh, conducted an operation with the assistance of information technology.
The team detained the two suspects and recovered the embezzled wheat bran, money and other materials.
A case has been filed over the incident, and police are conducting further operations to arrest the other members of the alleged fraud gang.
