Holy Cross College holds cancer awareness programme

Holy Cross College and the Holy Cross College Alumni Association, in collaboration with Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Cancer Hospital, have organised the “Promoting Cancer Awareness and Breast Screening Program 2026” at the college auditorium.
Around 1,400 Class XII students participated in two consecutive sessions of the programme recently.
Prof Dr Habibullah Talukder Ruskin, project coordinator of Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Cancer Hospital and chief coordinator of the Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum, delivered the keynote address.
Dr Mushtaq Ibn Ayub, associate professor of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Dhaka, was another speaker at the programme.
Dr Sadia Habib Arpi provided registered women with training on breast self-examination.
More than 500 guardians and female teachers registered for the breast screening programme. Today, four female doctors and three nurses/paramedics from Gonoshasthaya Cancer Hospital screened 240 women.
The screening of the remaining registered participants will be completed next Saturday, organisers said.
Holy Cross College Alumni Association President Fahmina Hasin delivered the welcome speech, while college Principal Sister Shikha Gomes delivered the vote of thanks.
