Bloodied dog recovered from drain; case filed

A case has been filed with the Bogura Sadar Police Station against a man accused of seriously injuring a dog with a sharp weapon in the Kanchhgari area of Bogura city.
On Monday (June 29), Md. Emran Hossain, convener member of the Bogura chapter of the Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association (BAWA), filed the complaint. The accused, Md. Swapan, a furniture businessman and resident of the Kanchhgari Pukurpar area, has been named in the case.
According to the complaint, Emran Hossain went to a narrow lane on the west side of Independent Hospital in Kanchhgari after receiving a phone call around noon on Monday. There, he found a black-and-white dog lying seriously injured in a roadside drain. With the assistance of two local residents, SM Sadikul Islam and Rafid Yasad, the dog was rescued and taken to a veterinary clinic in Jaleshwaritala for treatment.
The complainant said that, after being informed, officials from the Upazila Livestock Office and a coordinated veterinary team from the District Livestock Department provided medical treatment to the injured dog. Following treatment, the animal's condition reportedly improved.
The complaint further alleges that inquiries at the scene indicated that the accused, Swapan, had attacked the dog with a sharp object, causing severe injuries. The complainant also noted that filing the case was slightly delayed because priority was given to the animal's treatment and consultations with leaders of the organization.
Bogura Sadar Police confirmed that the complaint has been accepted and that the legal process has been initiated.
