Jubo Dal leader detained in JU after taking photos of female students

A leader of the ruling BNP's youth wing, Jatiatabadi Jubo Dal was detained at Jahangirnagar University (JU) after taking photos of female students without their consent.
He was later released after submitting a written confession and signing a written undertaking.
The incident occurred at around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday (July 2) in the university's Bot tola area.
The accused, Debashish Chowdhury, is a resident of Dhamrai Upazila in Dhaka and a former joint general secretary of the Dhamrai Upazila unit of Jubo Dal.
At the time of the incident, he had entered the campus with Selim Reza, joint convener of the Jahangirnagar University unit of Chhatra Dal.
In his written confession submitted to the university's security office, Debashish Chowdhury said:
"I had taken snacks at Bot tola. After eating, I secretly took photos of some girls. I supposed should not have taken those photos. I sincerely apologize to you. I will never again come to the campus. In fact, I will never again take anyone's photo anywhere in Bangladesh without their permission."
According to sources at the university's security office, two cans of beer were recovered from Debashish Chowdhury and the person accompanying him at the time of his detention. The beers were later destroyed in the presence of the university administration.
When contacted for comment, Selim Reza, joint convener of the Jahangirnagar University unit of Chhatra Dal, said, "I have no comment on the matter."
Assistant Proctor Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdur Razzaq said that the accused had come to Bottola with a former student of the university.
After allegations emerged that he had taken photos of two female students without their consent, he was taken to the university's security office. He was later released after signing a written undertaking.
Dr. Razzaq added that the accused had offered an unconditional apology to the students and pledged never to enter the university campus again. He also said that the vehicle used by the accused would be permanently barred from entering the campus. He was released after agreeing to these conditions.
