Trap of fake jobs covert illuminous ads, youths lost huge money

Job seekers from Barisal become victimized after trapped into fake jobs allured by illuminous advertisements.
The job seekers youths lost all of their money after getting trapped of those colorful ads.
Victims alleged that several of those have lost huge money but get no job. Some of those have given security gourds’ contractual job after promising good work in airport or NGOs. Several others were driven away after threatening.
Most of those victims said they failed to get legal assistance from law enforcers though seeking police help repeatedly.
All of these things make them frustrated, they said.
One of the victims is Jisan, a student of Abdul Jabbar Government College in Bhola.
He saw an advertisement read some post are vacant in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. He contacted to the given address and contact number.
Later, he went to a building in the capital’s Uttara Sector 3. The advertisers scrutinized Jisan’s papers and take BDT 12 thousand promising him a job in the airport.
But later they give him a contractual basis job as security gourd in a company. After doing duty as security gourd in 25 days, Jisan want to know about the promised job in Airport, they threaten him and driven away.
Jisan alleged that he complained to police on the issue but get no assistance.
Jisan said, he went to Dhaka in hope of getting a job after lured by an advertisement in Facebook. But being deceived.
“I have some deposits and taking some money from my father all have been handed over to the advertisers. One of my friends also went with me. But they banished me after assaulting physically instead of giving the promised job,” Jisan said.
After being cheat, Jisan said, he went to Uttara police station for submitting complaint but police did not help him on the issue which make him more frustrated.
Not only Jisan, many of the Barisal youths are also deceived by such advertisers.
Sanbir Mahmud is one of them. Sanbir is a student of Barisal BM College. He become deceived by a facebook advertisement which read to give job in a NGO.
He also sought legal assistance from police after understanding that getting cheated, but failed to get any help from the law enforcers.
“The advertisement was decorated in such sophisticated way, that it was too hard to understand that it is fake,” Sanbir said.
“The advertisers asked BDT 5000 for fee and tests. Later, I sent my documents and waiting for their call. But got no call was made for interview even after one week past,” he said.
“Then I’ve tried to contact with their mobile phone numbers, but got all are switched off.
“As a middle-earning family, the amount I spent is much. After losing the money I went to police but they failed to assist me. If the cyber team of our police be strong enough, then I may got their help,” Sanbir shared expressing frustration.
As per the 2025 data of the BTRC, there are 13 crore and 28 lakh internet users in Bangladesh. The number is increasing by 20 percent annually.
A number of internet users become victimized by such fraud people almost every day.
Experts warns that personal information were shared through such fake advertisement which pushed those persons’ privacy towards at risks.
“In a result of sharing personal information, many people become victimizing of blackmailing. It also created risk of their bank account and personal security also,” said technology institute Zintra Tech CEO Kakon Uzzal.
Civil society members also stressed on creating more awareness on keeping personal data while using internet.
Bahauddin Golap, Deputy Registrar of Barisal University told Asia Post, “While the world getting more advanced in digitalization, our online security should be ensured.”

City Secretary Rafiqul Alam emphasized on creating more awareness among the internet users to prevent such fraudulent incidents.
Earlier on 11 June, 2024, Barisal Kotwali Model Police had arrested one fraud Tauhid who bagged thousands of hundred taka floating fake appointment advertise for Barisal City Corporation, Norail Adhunik Sadar Hospital and Bogura Local Passport Office.
At present, 536 such cases are under judicial process in Barisal Cyber Tribunal, while higher court suspended the procedure of 10 cases.
When contacted, Barisal Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hanan told Asia Post, “In the most time there were lack of evidences in such cybercrime. If we get information police must take action.”
He said, police monitoring on these issues is continues.
