Jamaat Ameer to donate Tk 50 lakh to vandalized Radda health center
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman has announced a donation of Tk 50 lakh to the vandalized Radda MCH-FP health center to help keep its medical services operational.
The Leader of the Opposition made the announcement while speaking to the media after visiting the vandalized health center in Mirpur-1 in the capital on Monday (September 28).
Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “As a preliminary initiative, we have announced a donation of Tk 50 lakh to the health care center. This is the beginning, not the end. If necessary to ensure health care services for local people, we will provide more assistance, insha’Allah.”
The Jamaat Ameer expressed deep concern over the country’s law and order situation and the ongoing crisis in the health sector.
He expressed dissatisfaction over incidents involving the occupation of homes while openly carrying firearms, vandalism of studios and other such acts allegedly committed by miscreants.
He called on the government to bring every criminal involved in such incidents to justice.
Emphasising the need to ensure the security of hospitals and medical staff, Dr Shafiquur Rahman said no one would dare to commit such a serious offence without government backing and protection.
The Leader of the Opposition urged the government to take punitive action against those involved in the “heinous” acts.
Calling for strict punishment for the perpetrators, the Jamaat Ameer said, “No criminal should be spared. It does not matter what their political identity is. If any of them is found to be a worker of my party, they must be arrested and handed over to justice.”
The opposition leader also expressed disappointment over the severe shortage of manpower in the health sector.
He urged the government to stop “insulting” health workers, saying the sector is operating with less than half of the required manpower.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman stressed that the government should adopt humane and logical attitudes in all matters.
