Hours before march, effigy display of NCP leaders in Gangni

Just hours before the Jatiya Nagarik Party's (NCP) 'July Padayatra' programme, police recovered effigies of the party's central leaders and various slogans at three important places in Meherpur's Gangni town. The incident has created a lot of curiosity and sensation among the local people, including the political arena.
Locals spotted the effigies hanging from the roadside internet wire in front of Gangni Pilot Secondary School and College, RAB camp and rural electricity office in the early hours of Monday (July 27). On information, Gangni police reached the spot and removed them.
According to local sources, the effigies made of straw were wrapped in white cloth and hung with a rope around their necks. The posters had pictures of NCP convener Nahid Islam, chief organiser of the southern zone Hasnat Abdullah and chief organiser of the northern zone Sarjis Alam. Besides, the posters read, "Lollipop the youth took the country to the streets" and "Resist them, hate them." ’
It is not yet possible to identify who or what hung these effigies in the darkness of the night. However, prior to the event, such incidents have sparked various discussions and criticisms across the city.
Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhaddid Morshed Chowdhury said the miscreants may have done such a thing with the intention of creating panic and confusion among the people. Police are actively working to identify and arrest those involved in the incident. The matter is being investigated very seriously.
As part of the NCP's 'July Padyatra' programme, a massive padayatra and rallies are scheduled to be held in Gangni on Monday afternoon with the participation of central and local leaders. Just before the start of the program, such incidents have spread new mystery and heat in the political arena.
