Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has called on party leaders and activists to identify and nominate respected members of society as candidates for the upcoming local government elections.

He said that candidates should be selected based on their moral character and human qualities. According to him, preference should be given to individuals who earn a lawful (halal) livelihood, enjoy social acceptance, and possess leadership abilities, regardless of their position within the party. Such individuals, he said, would become responsible leaders in their respective areas.

He made these remarks on Saturday (July 4), the final day of a three-day educational camp held at Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar, Dhaka. The camp was organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for members of its district and metropolitan executive councils.

Speaking about the outcome of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "Including the reserved seats for women, we now have representation in Parliament with 90 seats. People voted with the expectation of entrusting responsibility to a corruption-free party that would eliminate corruption from society. Jamaat is the party best suited for that responsibility. Allah has entrusted us with as much responsibility as He deemed us worthy of."

The Jamaat chief added, "If our objective is merely to bring Jamaat to power, then our vision extends only to this world. But if our goal is to attain the pleasure of Allah, then our vision extends to the Hereafter. Whoever is capable of governing the country has a rightful claim to serve the entire nation." He also urged party members to overcome the "animalistic instincts" within themselves before trying to eliminate the same tendencies from society.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further said that organizational discipline within Jamaat is a blessing unmatched by any other organization. He said the party is founded on discipline, ethical values, and accountability before Allah. He warned that a lifetime of good reputation and achievements can be overshadowed by even a minor mistake.

He also said that those who hold firmly to the Sunnah of the Prophet and the Book of Allah never lose their way. Stressing the importance of strengthening families, he said this is possible only through Allah's blessings. He emphasized that society, the organization, and the country are built on the cooperation of both men and women. He urged members to honor mothers, support them in their responsibilities, and encourage them to contribute to religious activities.

The three-day educational camp was moderated by Central Executive Council member Dr. Mawlana Samiul Haque Farooqi. Speakers at various sessions included Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Mawlana A.T.M. Masum, Dr. A.H.M. Hamidur Rahman Azad, Mawlana Abdul Halim, and Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, among others.
