Countrymen are not well: Dr Shafiqur

Opposition Leader of Parliament and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said the people of the country are not well and the country is also not in a good state.

He said the power and energy crisis has reached a peak, causing immense suffering to the people.

The Jamaat Ameer made the remarks on Saturday (September 12) while addressing a brief gathering at a local madrasa playground in Manikpotol (Morichtola) village of Dhunat upazila in Bogura.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “We are trying to talk about the people’s suffering in Parliament. But the government has created obstacles to delivering speeches in Parliament. As we are being compelled, we have now taken to the streets to press home the demands of the people.”

Earlier in the day, Dr Shafiqur Rahman offered Fatiha at the grave of Shahid Abdul Maleque, the first martyr of the Islamic education movement, in Manikpotol village of Dhunat upazila.

The opposition leader also offered prayers at the graveyard, seeking Allah’s acceptance of Abdul Maleque’s martyrdom.

The Jamaat Ameer also exchanged views with the family members of Martyr Abdul Maleque in the village.

A large number of people gathered at the local madrasa playground after learning about the arrival of the Jamaat Ameer.

The people greeted and warmly welcomed Dr Shafiqur Rahman. In response, the Jamaat Ameer waved to the people.

Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer ATM Azharul Islam MP, Executive Committee Member Principal Shahabuddin, Dhunat upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Aminul Islam, among others, were present.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman arrived in Bogura on Friday night and stayed at the Bogura Circuit House.

He will address the Jamaat-e-Islami Bogura Rukon conference later in the day.
