Shibir holds student-mass rally at DU over Chhatra Dal attacks

Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir on Wednesday organized a student-mass rally on the Dhaka University campus, alleging repeated attacks by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on its leaders and activists at different educational institutions across the country.
Shibir leaders and activists began gathering at the Central Shaheed Minar from different parts of the capital through separate processions on Wednesday (5 August) morning.
Later, they brought out a protest march towards the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) area before proceeding to the Raju Memorial Sculpture, where they staged a sit-in programme.
Addressing the rally, Shibir leaders alleged that their members had recently come under attack at Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Begum Rokeya University, Dhaka Government Madrasa-e-Alia, Dhaka College, and several other campuses.
The protesters blamed Chhatra Dal for the alleged attacks, chanted slogans condemning the incidents, and demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible.
On Tuesday night, Islami Chhatra Shibir President Nurul Islam Saddam announced the protest programme at a press briefing.
He demanded the immediate identification and arrest of those involved in the attacks and criticized the authorities for failing to ensure the safety and security of students on university campuses.
Speakers at the rally also urged the authorities to ensure a peaceful, education-friendly environment on all campuses and to protect the democratic rights of students by taking prompt and effective action.
