NCP announces month-long ‘July Awakening’ program to support nation-building
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a month-long program titled "July Awakening" aimed at promoting nation-building and commemorating the spirit of the July uprising.
The announcement was made on Monday (June 29) during a press conference held at the party's central office.
Speaking at the briefing, Hasnat Abdullah said that the historic and blood-stained month of July returns every year carrying a renewed message of hope and inspiration. He noted that July occupies a unique place in the history of Bangladesh, as it symbolizes the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs and the mass uprising of students and the public that paved the way for a new democratic Bangladesh. According to him, the month-long program has been organized to honor this historic period and to convey the aspirations of the uprising to the younger generation and people from all walks of life.
The announced schedule includes visits to the graves of the martyrs at the Rayerbazar Martyred Intellectuals Memorial, solidarity meetings with anti-fascist student organizations, the announcement of a roadmap for upazila-level marches, nationwide graffiti and wall-painting campaigns, the "July Memorial Football Tournament," women's gatherings, and events involving farmers, workers, youth, and entrepreneurs.
The program will also feature visits to the graves of martyrs, prayer and remembrance ceremonies, cultural performances, discussion sessions, documentary screenings, the publication of commemorative materials, and victory celebrations.
According to the party's statement, a full-fledged subcommittee named the "July Reawakening Implementation Committee" has been formed to ensure the effective implementation of the month-long activities.
Hasnat Abdullah, one of the frontline leaders of the mass uprising and the NCP's Chief Organizer for the Southern Region, has been appointed as the convener of the committee. The party's Joint Convener, Ali Ahsan Junayed, will serve as the member secretary, while other party leaders will take on various responsibilities in implementing the program.
