The country could face a political crisis if the verdict of the referendum is not implemented, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has said.

"The country's main crisis now is the failure to implement the referendum verdict. If this verdict is not implemented, Bangladesh may move toward a political crisis," he said.

Parwar made the remarks at a human chain programme on Tuesday (July 7) at around 3:00 pm on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.

The programme, titled "Demanding the Immediate Convening of the Constitutional Reform Council to Implement the Referendum Verdict and Ensure Justice for the July Massacre," was organized by the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami. The alliance also submitted a memorandum to the Speaker of Parliament.

Earlier, at around 2:30 pm, leaders of the alliance presented a six-point memorandum to the Speaker. Rokeya Begum, a reserved-seat lawmaker and mother of July uprising martyr Jabir Ibrahim, handed over the memorandum on behalf of the alliance.

Among those present were Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Acting Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Billal Hossain Miajy, Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party Secretary General Musa Bin Izhar, JAGPA Vice President Rashed Pradhan, Jamaat Dhaka South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, Secretary Shafiqul Islam Masud, Dhaka North Ameer Selim Uddin, and Jamaat lawmaker from Pirojpur-1 Masud Sayeedi, among others.

Speaker Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal during the meeting.

After submitting the memorandum, the alliance leaders joined the human chain. Addressing the gathering, Golam Parwar said they had urged the Speaker, as the guardian of Parliament, to take legal steps—together with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition—to implement the referendum verdict.

According to Parwar, the Speaker assured them that he would speak with the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader and take whatever initiatives were within his authority to help resolve the issue. The Speaker also informed the delegation that he would discuss the memorandum submitted by the alliance during his meeting with the Prime Minister.

Others who addressed the programme included NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmad, and Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad. The event was moderated by Fakhruddin Manik, Assistant Secretary of Jamaat's Dhaka North unit.

Six Demands of the 11-Party Alliance

1. Immediately establish the Constitutional Reform Council and convene its session to implement the referendum verdict, along with adopting a clear, time-bound, and binding roadmap to ensure its effective implementation.

2. Bring all individuals directly or indirectly involved in the July massacre—including planners, instigators, those who issued orders, and collaborators—to a swift, impartial, transparent, and exemplary trial.

3. Undertake the necessary constitutional, legal, and institutional reforms, in line with the spirit of July, to establish a state founded on the rule of law, human rights, accountability, good governance, justice, and fairness.

4. Ensure proper state recognition, rehabilitation, medical treatment, compensation, and all necessary support for the families of those martyred and those injured in July so they can lead dignified lives.

5. Take institutional initiatives to preserve, research, and pass on the sacrifices, struggle, and spirit of July as an integral part of the nation's history and identity.

6. Open the "July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum" to the public by August.
