Jamaat Ameer warns of one-point movement

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has warned that if the government does not meet the 8-point demands of the 11-party alliance, it will be transformed into a one-point movement at any time.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made this warning while addressing a path meeting at Hatikumrul Circle in Sirajganj during the alliance’s Dhaka-to-Rangpur long-march programme on Saturday (19 September).

Addressing the people, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “If the government does not accept the 8-point demands in a proper manner, we will call a one-point movement with you. It might happen at any time.”

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman asked the people to get prepared for a call to start a long march from Sirajganj to Dhaka.

Describing the target of the movement, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “We are not doing agitation for any party or group. This movement is for the 18 crore people of the country. We will return home after realising our demands.”

At the same time, the Jamaat Ameer asked the government to accept the people’s demands to keep the country’s situation normal.

The demands of the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance, for which it started the long march from Dhaka to Rangpur, are: implementing the result of the referendum, ensuring justice for the July genocide, resolving the power, energy and fertiliser crises, containing the prices of essential commodities, stopping corruption, extortion and encroachment, developing the law and order situation, stopping nepotism, and implementing the Teesta mega plan.
